GIBSON CITY – The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley tennis team lost 9-0 Tuesday to St. Thomas More.
"It was another opportunity to learn last night," GCMS head coach Cindy Petersen said. "We have been talking a lot about the intensity of our play this past week, and I am pleased to say that is what we saw on the courts," Petersen said. "Even though we weren't able to secure a match, the girls were able to take several games from St. Thomas More. It shows we are indeed learning and growing as a team."
In the doubles matches, Rose Williams/Sophie Hafer lost 8-4 and Jessica Mueller/Paige Shelton lost 8-3. Lexi Wilfong/Kelsi Reynolds lost 8-6.
"They played very tough in their match," Petersen said.
Hafer lost her singles match 8-1, Williams lost 8-2, Talley Rouley lost 8-1, Reynolds lost 6-2, Mueller lost 6-0 and Rachel Harmet lost 8-1.
In an exhibition match, Lauren Duquette won 8-4.
"She played one of her best matches last night," Petersen said.
