PALATINE -- On Saturday, students from the Paxton-Buckley-Loda school district traveled to Palatine for a distance-only track meet.
PBL High School freshman Ryder James had the fastest freshman time in the state of Illinois in the 1,600 in all classes with a time of 4:30.28, a personal best and a PBL freshman record.
"Ryder went out and took control of the race from the gun as he was chasing the freshman record," PBL head cross country/boys track and field coach. "He relinquished the lead for a brief 160 meters or so at the 900-meter mark. He regained the lead with a strong surge down the homestretch at 1,200 meters. He opened up a gap on the field over the final lap and had a strong finish down the homestretch in front of a full grandstand."
James was awarded his medal by Craig Virgin, a three-time Olympic qualifier at 10,000 meters.
Also racing were Jordan Giese, Liam McMullin, Jesse Barfield, and Ryder James in a costume 4x400 where they placed second overall with a time of 4:04 dressed as Minions.
Kyla Franckey raced in the sixth grade-and-under co-ed 800-meter run, where she ran a time 3:10 and placed 11th overall.
