WATSEKA -- The Paxton-Buckley-Loda softball team won 5-3 over Watseka in its Sangamon Valley Conference debut on Tuesday, April 2.

"The kids played great tonight," PBL head coach Kelli Vaughn said. "We played error-free softball and just made every play we needed to make. It was a solid team effort tonight and one that has us excited for the future with this team."

In the first inning, Christina White and Lorena Arnett each drew a walk before Baylee Cosgrove hit a three-run homer to center field to give PBL (2-6, 1-0) a 3-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, Maddy Foellner drew a leadoff walk before Sindra Gerdes threw another base-on-balls. Gerdes and Foellner each scored on an erroneous throw.

"Magan Harris was tough on the mound, but we showed some patience and drew some walks that allowed us to score on their miscues in the fourth," Vaughn said.

On the mound, Emma Steiner struck out three batters and walked one while allowing three runs -- two earned -- on seven hits through all seven innings.

"I thought Emma kept her composure on the mound and the kids made some nice plays behind her," Vaughn said.
