ARMSTRONG -- The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley softball team won two games in a tournament hosted by Armstrong-Potomac High School on Saturday.

The Falcons defeated the host Trojans 5-3.

On the mound, Peyton Leonard picked up the win as she allowed two earned runs on two hits and four walks with three strikeouts through five innings.

Lauren Leonard was credited with a save as she yielded one earned run on one hit and one walk with two strikeouts through two innings.

At the plate, Emily Clinton and Madi Eberle each hit 2-for-4 while Sadie Christensen hit 2-for-3. Eberle tripled, doubled and had two RBIs while Christensen tripled and Clinton scored two runs.

The Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the second inning as Maci Bielfeldt hit a leadoff double to center field and Dani Eckerty drew a walk before both runners crossed home plate on a Christensen triple to center field.

In the third inning, Clinton hit a one-out single before scoring on an Eberle double to center field. Eberle crossed home plate as Maci Bielfeldt reached base on an error.

Eberle then hit an RBI triple to left field to send Clinton across home plate in the fifth inning to extend GCMS's lead to 5-0.

Earlier that Saturday, GCMS defeated Chrisman 17-5.

Madi Eberle walked and Lindsey Heinz reached base on an error before Lauren Leonard hit a two-out single to left field to send both runners home in the bottom of the first inning. After a bunt single by Makenzi Bielfeldt, Sadie Christensen sent Alex Kafer and Bielfeldt home with a base hit to right field to tie the game at 4-4.

In the second inning, Hannah Hathaway hit a leadoff single to right field and Emily Clinton reached base on an error, which resulted in Hathaway scoring a go-ahead run, before a triple by Eberle to left field sent Clinton across home plate.

Another three-bagger to left field hit by Heinz sent Eberle home before Heinz scored in a line-drive base hit to right field by Lauren Leonard.

The Falcons scored six more runs in the third inning.

Megan Moody and Hathaway each drew a walk and Clinton was hit by a pitch to load the bases with nobody out before Eberle walked to send Moody across home plate.

Heinz then singled to left field to send Hathaway and Clinton home. After Ashley Hyatt walked, Eberle scored on a Lauren Leonard sacrifice fly.

Christensen then doubled to send Heinz home before scoring on a fielder's choice ground ball hit by Skyler Funk.

In the fourth inning, GCMS scored three more runs.

Peyton Leonard walked before scoring on an error on a ground ball hit by Eberle. Heinz sent Eberle home with a line-drive base hit to center field.

Dani Eckerty sent Heinz across home plate with a groundout.

Heinz finished the game hitting 3-for-4 with Lauren Leonard and Christensen each hit 2-for-3.

On the mound, Lauren Leonard allowed five runs -- four earned -- on seven hits and one walk with eight strikeouts through all five innings.
