GIBSON CITY -- The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley baseball team rallied from a two-run deficit in the final inning to win 6-5 Monday over Ridgeview.
The Falcons (9-2) started their rally with a leadoff home run hit to center field by Layne Harden that cut GCMS's deficit to 5-4.
After Hunter Brewer and Braden Roesch each drew a walk and Wade Burton reached base on an error to load the bases, Brewer scored the tying run before Josh Nuss singled to send Burton home for the game-winning tally.
In the second inning, Ethan Garard hit a two-out double to left field before scoring on a base hit to center field hit by Nuss to give GCMS a 1-0 lead.
The Falcons scored two more runs in the third inning. Daniel Jones singled to center field and Harden doubled to left field before Brewer sent both runners home with a double to center field.
Harden finished the game hitting 2-for-3 while Jones, Ethan Garard and Nuss each hit 2-for-4.
On the mound, Wade Burton allowed five earned runs on one hit and four walks with five strikeouts through 4 2/3 innings. Cade Elliott was credited with the win as he allowed no runs on one hit and no walks with five strikeouts through 2 1/3 innings.
