AULT, Colo. — Betty Jean Landes Janssen, 88, of Ault, Colo., formerly of Buckley, died Wednesday, March 6, 2019, surrounded by her family at the Good Samaritan Society’s Bonell Community facility in Greeley, Colo.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 14, at the First Baptist Church of Eaton, Colo.
Mrs. Janssen was born Nov. 12, 1930, in Hammond, Ind., to Harold and Irene Landes. She spent much of her youth in Buckley with her mother, father and brother, Chuck. She met her husband of 65 years, Bill Janssen, at Buckley Community High School, where she graduated as the 1948 class salutatorian.
Mrs. Janssen achieved her dream of becoming a nurse after moving alone at just 17 years old to Chicago, attending the Lutheran Deaconess School of Nursing. She often said her three years of nursing school gave her some of her happiest memories, and she remained close with the friends she made there for life. She continued nursing in a number of states, as she and her husband and their four boys moved many times through the years before settling in Ault, Colo., in 1969.
Surviving are her husband and their sons, Ben Janssen, Dale Janssen and wife Cindy, Mark Janssen and wife Tina, and David Janssen and wife Melonie, who all continue to live in northern Colorado. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the First Baptist Church of Eaton, in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 702 13th St., Greeley, CO 80631.
