GIBSON CITY — Bernard O. "Bernie" Erwin, 85, of Gibson City, formerly of Paxton, died at 8:45 a.m. Friday March 8, 2019, at his home in Gibson City.

A celebration of his life will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 29, at Rosenbaum Funeral Home in Gibson City, with the Rev. Dan Hill officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 29, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lyman Township Cemetery.

Mr. Erwin was born Dec. 24, 1933, in Will County, a son of Robert and Jessie (Fritchley) Erwin. He married JoAnn Anderson on Oct. 19, 2001, in Paxton. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Kim (Chano) Chacon of Paxton and Candice (Michael) Short of Paxton; six step-children, Tony Knecht of Veedersburg, Ind., Curtis (Beth) Knecht of Hoopeston, Carla (Clark) Grupe of Veedersburg, Ind., Andrew (Linda) Knecht of Covington, Ind., Chad (Tracy) Knecht of Indianapolis, Ind. and Kenneth Anderson of Veedersburg, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Pauline Pelton of Wilmington; and a brother, Marion (Joan) Erwin of Coal City.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford "Bud" Erwin.

Mr. Erwin was a graduate of Roberts-Thawville High School. He was a heavy-equipment operator and a longtime member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 841.

Mr. Erwin served on the Ford County Board for many years. He attended the First Baptist Church in Gibson City. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and Illini fan, and he enjoyed fishing and his garden.
