PAXTON — The Ford County Sheriff’s Office has received two complaints regarding an apparent telephone scam.

The callers are stating that they are from DISH or DirecTV. They say that customers need to upgrade their hardware in their home because new towers were installed. The callers know the person’s name, date of birth and the last four digits of their Social Security number and are asking $200 be charged on their credit card.

The sheriff’s office advises not to give out your personal information to callers over the phone.

DirecTV and DISH have been contacted and said they would not contact their customers in this fashion.
