PAXTON — Dawn Bachtold was re-elected as the Paxton-Buckley-Loda school board’s president for the next two years during the board’s reorganizational meeting last week.

Bachtold, a Paxton resident, has been president of the board for the last eight years, after taking over for Mike Short, who had held the position for the previous 20.

Meanwhile, the board elected Shawn Young of Paxton as its vice president. Young, who had been serving as the board’s secretary for several years, filled the vice president’s role that had been held for a number of years by Dave Dowling, who opted not to seek re-elected to the board in April.

Steve Pacey of Paxton was named the board’s new secretary.

The board elected Bachtold, Young and Pacey to serve as the board’s officers until the next reorganizational meeting following the April 2021 election.

Also, Justin Swan of The Frederick Community Bank in Paxton was retained as the board’s treasurer.

Board members elected to seats in the April election also took their oath of office. Pacey was joined in taking the oath of office by newcomers Dana Bergandine and Jason Dirks, both of Paxton. All were unopposed in seeking election to three available four-year terms.

The board also assigned its members to the following committees: curriculum committee (Bergandine), PBL Education Foundation (Craig Loschen), special education (Bachtold), policy review committee (Bergandine), building and grounds committee (Young and Loschen), finance committee (Young and Pacey), extra-curricular committee (Pacey and Dirks), insurance committee (Allen Johnson) and personnel committee (Johnson and Bergandine).

The board also approved its calendar of meetings for the 2019-20 school year. The board will continue to meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the board room at the unit office in Paxton. Meeting dates in 2019 are July 10, Aug. 14, Sept. 18, Oct. 16, Nov. 13 and Dec. 11. Meeting dates in 2020 are Jan. 15, Feb. 12, March 11, April 15, May 13 and June 10.

Also at last Wednesday's meeting, the board approved the canvassed results from the April 2 election and approved all existing policies of the board.
