Doug's Compounding Pharmacy has new owner

PAXTON — Doug Higgins recently announced the sale of Doug’s Compounding Pharmacy in Paxton to pharmacist Jenna Cowell Vogel, effective in January.

Vogel anticipates a seamless transition as Higgins will continue to work as an employee of the pharmacy, providing pharmacy support, compounding expertise, patient consultations and provider support.

Engelbrecht joins staff of Onarga Clinic

ONARGA — Certified family nurse practitioner Crickett Engelbrecht has joined the staff at Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services’ Onarga Clinic.

Engelbrecht joins the clinic’s staff of Dr. Benjamin Brewer, Dr. Doug Lanoue and family nurse practitioner Sue Gray. Engelbrecht will see patients from pediatrics to geriatrics, including walk-ins.


Ford County set to hire two more employees

PAXTON — The Ford County Board is expected Monday night to authorize the county’s public health department and treasurer’s office to hire new employees.

On Thursday morning, the board’s finance committee voted 4-0 to recommend the full board approve a resolution authorizing the public health department to fill a soon-to-be-vacant full-time nursing position.


Parking spaces designated for use by to-be-opened dental clinic

PAXTON — Despite concerns about the appearance of favoring one business over another, the Paxton City Council voted 6-1 Tuesday to designate five parking spaces downtown for use exclusively by clients of a yet-to-be-opened dental clinic.


Flu vaccine still available at Iroquois County Public Health Department

WATSEKA — The Iroquois County Public Health Department, located in the Administrative Center at 1001 E. Grant St. in Watseka, has flu vaccines available to the public on a walk-in basis from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The agency can bill Medicare and most insurance companies for the flu vaccine. People can call 815-432-2483 for more information. 


Buckley Ambulance Service seeks EMTs, to hold educational course

BUCKLEY — The Buckley Ambulance Service is in need of more licensed emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and hopes to generate more interest in what it calls a “gratifying” profession through educational classes being offered in Buckley early next year.


Accolade closes Paxton nursing home, buys another

PAXTON — Accolade Healthcare has shut down one of its nursing homes in Paxton but purchased another, making the company the sole provider of long-term care in the Ford County seat.

Accolade Healthcare owner Moe Freedman said his firm closed Accolade Healthcare of Paxton, located at 1240 N. Market St., effective Nov. 1.


Elite Sport & Fitness hosts grand-opening event

GIBSON CITY — Gibson Area Hospital’s Elite Sport & Fitness held its grand opening Thursday in its new location at 619 E. First St. in Gibson City. 

Attendees toured the completely revamped facility, which was previously an Alco discount retail store. After the store closed, the building had been sitting vacant in recent years.


IMH, Riverside exploring merger

KANKAKEE — Officials with Kankakee-based Riverside Healthcare and Watseka-based Iroquois Memorial Hospital (IMH) have each signed a non-binding letter of intent to explore merging IMH into Riverside Healthcare.

The letter of intent gives both organizations the chance to work confidentially to explore the possible merger.
