PAXTON — Paxton-Buckley-Loda school board members and administrators will take a tour Wednesday evening of the 63,400-square-foot school building being built on Clara Peterson Elementary School’s east side.

GIBSON CITY — In a brief meeting Monday night, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley school board members approved a two-year contract extension with Mid-American Energy and Mansfield Energy for electric and natural gas, respectively.


Students from Tri-Point, GCMS advance in NSDAR essay contest

The Gov. Thomas Ford chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) announced that Tri-Point Junior High School eighth-grader Erica Harrell and Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Middle School sixth-grader Addison Kerchenfaut were named winners at both the chapter and district levels of the NSDAR’s annual American history essay contest.


Rotary seeks students to attend leadership camp

GIBSON CITY — The Gibson City Rotary Club is accepting applications from Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School sophomores interested in attending a leadership training camp to be held April 12-14 at Allerton Park near Monticello.


Atkinson named student of month at PBL High School

PAXTON — Sophomore Emma Atkinson of Paxton has been named student of the month for January at Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School.

A daughter of Dawn Stack and Jim Atkinson, she was nominated for the award by PBL High School English teacher Rebekah Carroll. In her nomination letter, Carroll wrote:

Longmire, Salyards to receive GCMS's Distinguished Alumni Award

GIBSON CITY — Conrad Longmire, a former theoretical physicist who graduated from Sibley High School in 1939, and Mark Salyards, a former chief master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force who graduated from Gibson City High School in 1982, are set to receive the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley school district.


PBL declines to move forward on solar-energy project

PAXTON — After months of discussion and negotiations, the Paxton-Buckley-Loda school board decided not to pursue a company’s proposal to put solar panels on PBL’s schools.


Fire chief, school personnel to meet next week to select spot for huge flagpole

PAXTON — Paxton Fire Chief Denny Kingren said he plans to meet with Paxton-Buckley-Loda school district personnel next week to determine a location on school district property to place a 150-foot flagpole that would fly a huge American flag.


Amended property tax settlement OK'd by GCMS school board

GIBSON CITY — Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley school board members approved an updated version of a property tax settlement between the school district, the City of Gibson and the One Earth Energy ethanol plant on Monday night.
