Paxton-based Dogtown Heating & Air opens branch in Urbana

URBANA — A popular Paxton heating and air conditioning business has added a second location in Urbana.

Dogtown Heating & Air has been in business at 109 S. Railroad Ave. in Paxton for several years.

Dogtown repairs, replaces or serves anything involving heating and air and is a Lennox carrier.


Ford County Board votes to not recommend hog facility be built

PAXTON — Though it is not legally binding and could be viewed merely as symbolic, the Ford County Board voted Monday night to not recommend to the Illinois Department of Agriculture that a proposed hog-finishing facility be built about a half-mile west of Sibley

Several trustees of the town of 272 in western Ford County addressed the county board, asking for the action.


Gibson City planning commission approves three action items

GIBSON CITY — Gibson City’s planning commission approved three action items during their meeting Monday night in the dining room of the Villas of Holly Brook.

Chairman Mary Timm first recognized visitor Steve Kelly, general manager of the One Earth Energy ethanol plant located at the north end of the Jordan Industrial Park on the city’s west side.

GIBSON CITY — In a short meeting Monday night, Gibson City Council members unanimously approved two ordinances related to One Earth Energy’s request to annex approximately 103 acres into city limits and to rezone that land.

New wind-farm rules could reduce scope of Apex's project, but may not kill it

GIBSON CITY — The more-restrictive setbacks and other new regulations for wind farms currently under consideration by the Ford County Board could make it “extremely difficult, if not impossible,” for Apex Clean Energy to build its proposed 250-megawatt Ford Ridge Wind Farm in the Gibson City and Sibley areas, a company representative said Thursday.

PAXTON — Like some village trustees in Sibley, some members of the Ford County Board are concerned about the possibility that a strong odor of hog manure could invade the town if a proposed swine facility is built too close to village limits.


Doug's Compounding Pharmacy has new owner

PAXTON — Doug Higgins recently announced the sale of Doug’s Compounding Pharmacy in Paxton to pharmacist Jenna Cowell Vogel, effective in January.

Vogel anticipates a seamless transition as Higgins will continue to work as an employee of the pharmacy, providing pharmacy support, compounding expertise, patient consultations and provider support.


Tin Cup Restaurant & Bar to open at Lakeview Country Club

BAYLES LAKE — Lakeview Country Club announced that the Tin Cup Restaurant & Bar will soon be opening in its clubhouse.

The restaurant and bar will be operated by Peggy Burton, who co-owned the former Tin Pan restaurant in downtown Paxton. The Tin Cup Restaurant & Bar replaces Sage’s, which closed last year.
