Solar array proposed at EIEC's headquarters in Paxton

PAXTON — Paxton City Council members heard Tuesday night about a proposed renewable-energy project at Eastern Illini Electric Cooperative’s headquarters that would involve the construction of a solar array capable of producing about 300,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity.

PAXTON — The Paxton City Council voted 6-0 Tuesday night to donate $6,000 toward the eighth annual Paxton Swine ‘N’ Dine BBQ Contest & Festival, an event that is expected to again feature a concert headlined by a nationally known musical act.


Cops to continue probe into Elliott man's death after coroner's jury rules it a homicide

PAXTON — Ford County authorities will continue to investigate last May’s death of an Elliott man after a coroner’s jury ruled it was a homicide Wednesday night.

“We have people to talk to and more work to be done,” Sheriff Mark Doran said following the verdict.


Paxton-based Dogtown Heating & Air opens branch in Urbana

URBANA — A popular Paxton heating and air conditioning business has added a second location in Urbana.

Dogtown Heating & Air has been in business at 109 S. Railroad Ave. in Paxton for several years.

Dogtown repairs, replaces or serves anything involving heating and air and is a Lennox carrier.


NSDAR members wear red to meeting as part of Go Red for Women initiative

GIBSON CITY — Members of the Gov. Thomas Ford chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) met for their regular monthly meeting on Monday, Feb. 4, at the Villas of Holly Brook assisted-living facility in Gibson City.

$32 surcharge to be added to Elliott residents' water bills

ELLIOTT — Elliott Village Board members unanimously approved adding a $32 surcharge to residents’ bimonthly water bills Tuesday night to help finance the repayment of a $205,000 bond that was obtained to cover costs of repainting the town’s water tower.
